Weather Emergency Information

(Last updated: Wed Oct 12, 2011)

There is always a certain amount of unpredictability to weather forecasts. To receive the most accurate school delay/closing information, you can obtain it in any one of the following ways:

  1. Call our emergency line at 422-7450 for up to date information. This line can and will be updated regularly with the very latest school information.
  2. Listen to WFAS AM radio.
  3. Listen to WVOX AM radio for school information.
  4. Log on to news12.com for school news.

Any announcement using the term "Early Dismissal" refers to our 11:20 dismissal time. If any other time is announced, it will never be referred to as our "Early Dismissal."

It is essential that you clarify with your children where they are to go that day and how they are to get there for any weather related delay and/or school closing.

When a school district closes prior to the beginning of the school day, they do not provide bus transportation for any school children. Alternate arrangements for arrival and/or pick-up must then be made by you.

Use of Emergency Number and/or IRIS Alert System

Having just completed our first testing of the IRIS Alert System, I want to clarify for you when and how each will be used.

School Emergency Number   422-7450

-  This will still be used for any weather related delays or closings.  You may call this number any number of times if bad weather is approaching that may cause us to delay or close school for the day.  The IRIS System IS NOT intended for this purpose.  Additional information appears under the Weather Emergency tab on the website.

IRIS Alert System

-  This will be used to alert all families of an immediate crisis that necessitates that I contact you immediately.  Some examples of this, but not limited to these, may be:  the loss of heat once we have begun the school day, the loss of water or bathroom usage on any given day, a building emergency requiring an evacuation, snowfall that begins after we have arrived that requires school to close immediately etc.  You DO NOT have to respond to an IRIS Alert message nor should you call the school for updates.  I will always update any emergencies of this type through the IRIS system.  However, it is also important to review with your children how you want them to handle this type of emergency in the event they take the school bus home.  Unless we have a note that day changing their normal transportation home, we will place all bus children on their regular bus and those that normally are transported home will be held until someone comes for them.

It is imperative that we always have the most current phone numbers and e-mail addresses for you.  They MUST be numbers and addresses that you consistently use and will answer to each day.  If you wish to make any corrections to these, please send an e-mail to Mrs. Pircio and she will adjust these for you.
