Physical Education Program

                                                                             April 28, 2008

Dear Parents,

            Thank you for contacting Mrs. Ahern, our school nurse, regarding your child’s asthma.  She has alerted me to your child’s condition and as we prepare to begin our spring fitness testing in Grades 4 through 8, I in turn would like to inform you of the dates for our mile run/walk.  Grades 4 through 7 will be participating in the cardio-vascular segment of the President’s Fitness Challenge the week of April 28th, according to the following schedule;

                Monday - 4A, 6GL, 6G, 7A, 7B,

            Wednesday - 4F, 4T, 5Mc, 5Me, 5L

            Due to an Enrichment Assembly on Monday, April 28th, the eighth grade homerooms will participate in the run/walk on Monday, May 4th.

            Please be sure you child’s inhaler is in school, IN THE NURSE’S OFFICE.  Check with your child as to when they have physical education.  Decide if you should have your child use his/her inhaler before coming to school.  Please send a note in to your child’s homeroom teacher if you feel they should use the inhaler right before the run/walk.  I will carry all the inhalers that the nurse has received with me to the field.

            I have found in the past, that when I give advance notice regarding the mile run/walk, that I receive all sorts of letters asking to excuse children from participating.  In this time when there is so much talk about children’s obesity, juvenile diabetes and general lack of physical fitness, please don’t let your child take the easy way out, unless you are truly concerned for their health.

            I am sending this note to you as a courtesy, due to your child’s medical condition, not as general announcement to the school.  Please feel free to call me at school or send me a note if you have any concerns I have not addressed.

                                                                                                Sincerely,

                                                                                                Mrs. Logigian
